Community Service Awards - 2011

The winners of the 2011 MRSPA Community Service Awards were as follows:

The winner of the Individual Outstanding Award was Dr. Raymond E. Clarke - Kent County.  For the past five years Dr. Clarke has been involved with the Kent County Food pantry which feeds about 10% of the county population.  Serving on the board of directors, he is involved in every aspect of providing food for "at risk" citizens.  Dr. Clarke volunteers approximately 10 hours a week, procuring food and making deliveries to the pantry.  The food pantry serves more than 6,650 people each year.  In 2010, that included 2,400 children.  Most recently he worked with the schools in a new program called "Food Packs".  The program identifies and supplies needy children with food for the weekends.

The winner of the Local Association Outstanding Award was Anne Arundel Retired School Personnel Association Voices in Melody chorus. The chorus is composed of 30 members of AARSPA, under the direction of Tom Neuenschwander.  Voices in Melody is an ongoing project, with weekly rehearsals at an Anne Arundel County school.  Performances include senior centers, assisted living and rehabilitation centers, churches, and the Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
