The MRSPA Community Service Committee encourages local associations to involve their members in service projects and volunteer activities. The committee will provide resources and information to the local associations.

Community Service Awards - 2010 

The winners of the 2010 MRSPA Community Service Awards were as follows:

The winner of the Individual Outstanding Award was Ellen VanCulin - Kent County for her consistent efforts as a volunteer instructional assistant in county schools. Retiring five years ago from Millington Elementary School after serving as an instructional assistant she promptly returned one month later to volunteer her services. She has consistently served for three to four hours daily since that time supporting children’s learning through her volunteer activity.

Recognition awards went to Janet M. Yuninger - Cecil County Retired School Personnel Association; Linda P. Chakales - St. Mary's County Public School Retirees Association; Leon C. Brumback - Washington County Retired Educational Personnel Association; Jacqueline D. Johnson - Worcester County Retired School Personnel Association. 

The winner of the local Association Outstanding Award was St. Mary's County Public School Retirees Association for their St. Mary’s Nursing Home ProjectThe two-fold project includes collecting donations by members of cash, fabric and towels which are used to make large bibs and walker/wheelchair pockets for the residents of the local nursing center. SMCPSRA also sponsors an August birthday party providing gifts, cake, prizes for bingo games as well as setting up the musical entertainment. The SMCPRSA generosity and efforts benefit up to sixty residents and staff of the county’s nursing center.

Honorable Mention award went to Allegany County Retired School Personnel.

Recognition awards went to the following Associations: Caroline Retired School Personnel; Washington County Retired Educational Personnel Association; Worcester County Retired School Personnel Association.
