2010 Scholarship
The Maryland Retired School Personnel Association Fund was established through a financial gift by Irl and Ella Beall. This gift has enabled the Association to offer a scholarship to those engaged in education in public schools of Maryland and who are enrolled in a program leading to teacher certification. Applicants must hold a high school diploma or a GED certificate and must intend to teach in Maryland.
The critical shortage of certified teachers in the public school systems of Maryland is of concern to all. One of the goals of MRSPA is to encourage and assist those currently employed by our school systems to become certified teachers. MRSPA, therefore, offers eligible individuals to apply for scholarship assistance through our Fund.
Eligible applicants include:
- Uncertified teachers
- Teachers assistants
- Teachers aides
- Substitute teachers
- Other State of Maryland public school system employees
The applicant must provide the following in his/her application packet:
- The completed scholarship application
- Official college transcript (minimum GPA of 2.5 at time of application)
- Two reference letters from persons unrelated to the applicant
- Maximum 250 essay on why the applicant wants to obtain teacher certification
- Maximum 250 word essay explaining financial need
The award is made payable to the institution of higher learning designated by the recipient. If the scholarship is not fully utilized within a period of one calendar year from the date of the award, the unused portion shall be returned to the Maryland Retired School Personnel Association Fund.
