The website provides volunteer opportunities based on the users zip code. The site also includes how-to videos for simple service projects, like winterizing homes, starting a walking group, etc. The site includes opportunities for service that can take as little as 5 minutes as well as on-going activities over extended periods of time. AARP has launched this website in response to the increased volunteerism being seen in the 45+ population as baby boomers retire. This year studies show that half of Americans are helping others in self-directed ways like giving food or money. Others volunteer through organizations. Getting involved through AARP is a great way to get to know your community better, to meet new people and to help improve the lives of your neighbors. The website allows individuals to find ways to make a difference! Volunteers benefit by getting access to a community of people to share ideas, learn new skills, and read about the latest ways people are making a different in their community as well as across the country. The term Create the Good came from a speech Ethel Percy, AARPs founder gave on community service where she said, The challenge to live up to our better selves, to believe well of our fellow men and perhaps by doing so to help create the good, to experiment, to explore, to change, and to grow.
