Endowment Fund Scholarship |
| The establishment of the Maryland Retired School Personnel Association Endowment Fund, through an initial financial gift by Irl and
Ella Beall, has enabled the association to offer a scholarship to those
engaged in education in the public schools of Maryland, and who are
enrolled in a program leading to certification.
The current teacher shortage in Maryland is a critical problem for all
school systems as they endeavor to provide certified teachers. It is the
goal of the Association to encourage those uncertified individuals who are
already employed by schools systems to become certified teachers in
Maryland. Individuals who are eligible to apply for the scholarship include:
 |
uncertified teachers |
 |
teacher assistants |
 |
teacher aides |
 |
substitute teachers |
 |
other School
System employees |
Applicants must hold a high school diploma or a GED certificate and
must be enrolled in a program working toward Maryland teacher certification.
The amount of the award shall be $1,000 to
$1,500 payable
to the institution of higher learning designated by the recipient. If the
scholarship is not fully utilized within a period of two years, the unused
portion shall be returned to the Maryland Retired School Personnel Association
Endowment Fund.
