Maryland Retired School Personnel Association Scholarship Awards

MRSPA annually presents scholarships to active employees of Maryland Public Schools. This scholarship will assist them with their goal of attaining Maryland State Department of Education Certification.

IRL AND ELLA BEALL
The first MRSPA scholarships were awarded in 2000 after Irl and Ella Beall, Howard County retired educators, made a bequest of $50,000 to the Association. As of 2021 a total of 55 scholarships have been awarded. The MRSPA Scholarship Fund is administered by The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The Maryland Retired School Personnel Association is the only organization in the state that works exclusively for retired school system personnel. It has approximately 13,000 members, with local affiliates in every county and Baltimore City. MRSPA is affiliated at the national level with NRTA: AARP’s Educator Community.
The four 2022 winners were awarded $2,000 each. Congratulations to all.

"This scholarship is allowing me to pursue the advanced certification in teaching. Being a CTE teacher, I did not have a teaching background prior to this position. Obtaining my certification allows me to learn the principles of teaching as well as how to improve to be the best teacher I can be. Since starting my certification, I have adapted how I teach and it truly has made my students be more successful. Again thank you for this opportunity; it is greatly appreciated."

Ionie A. Martin
